It drives me absolutely insane that we are constantly hearing how
BREASTFEEDING contributes to x, y, and z that is BAD FOR WOMEN. How about
we acknowledge that our postnatal practices in many countries are terrible
for families and THOSE - not the messages about breastfeeding - are truly
to blame for mothers having a difficult time. Our "villages" are
nonexistent in many places, maternity leave is a joke, and women are
expected to do the bulk of household chores - perfectly, at that - and
return to work sooner and sooner, no matter what. It's not breastfeeding
that isn't family friendly.
