Hi Tricia, I've written a couple of papers to help health professionals dealing with just this. A paper on ethics and milk sharing is here http://www.clinicallactation.org/sites/default/files/articlepdf/gribble%20ethics%20milk%20sharing.pdf and a paper on risks is here http://www.amj.net.au/index.php?journal=AMJ&page=article&op=viewFile&path%5B0%5D=1222&path%5B1%5D=933 Unfortunately, banked donor milk is usually not available to families whose infant is relatively healthy. What does everyone think? I'm sure ILCA probably has a policy. My opinion is that they should be using a human milk bank, but I keep running across people who want to use milk donated from friends. I can understand that for some people using a milk bank can be cost prohibitive at $18 per 4 oz bottle, but I just feel like its not a good idea. To cover myself for liability reasons, I always give them a speech about things that can potentially transmit through breastmilk and recommend using a milk bank, but then it's there choice. Would love to hear what others think, or their experiences with this. > > Tricia Shamblin, RN, IBCLC > > *********************************************** > > Archives: http://community.lsoft.com/archives/LACTNET.html > To reach list owners: [log in to unmask] > Mail all list management commands to: [log in to unmask] > COMMANDS: > 1.
