I have found it helpful to have the mother ask if contrast dyes are used with babies having MRIs. They are, of course, but radiologists often don't think about that. It also helps to have the mother ask the doctor to explain just what "contrast" means - is the agent absorbed? If it is how can it contrast? Again, asking the question instead of challenging often leads the MD to start thinking it through and realize who it couldn't be much of an impact on the baby.
