I agree, there is usually a bolus, so you just change containers. Those little pill cups are ideal. I also agree that  we need more research and/or observation reports. 

In the olden days I remember using a bottle nipple :-o and then getting baby to suck colostrum out. The baby's reaction was usually, eyes flying wide open with a look like -oh that's what I'm supposed to do. Then would latch and nurse! 

However, I still think hand expressing the first time or 2, wherever the baby is,  is the way to go before bringing out the pump (or nipple shield!) Pat in SNJ
