I think that test weighing is another valuable tool that we have. I do use a test weight with every baby that I see with weight problems. I use that information along with every other piece of information that I gather to make a plan for that family. In the beginning I didn't it use test weight very often because I thought listening for suck/swallow was adequate although my mind started to change when I would be in the nursery and allow infants to suckle on a gloved finger when they were getting heal pokes and I started to realize that more than just a couple babies made routine suck/swallow patterns even though nothing was coming out of my glove.
