Hmm. I don't recall making any statements on the presence or absence of them here. I have heard the same thing from migratory beekeepers as Lloyd, though, --  that they have a hot hive or two in most yards. So we agree. 

We still have a toothless law on the books that makes their presence illegal, but the beekeeping industry in NYS is essentially unregulated. By the way, I do not favor beekeeping regulations, I think the industry can self-regulate. 

However, I do feel it is penny wise and pound foolish to keep African bees, at least in vicinity of populated areas. Worst case scenario: someone dies from stinging incident and the lawyer finds out the beekeeper has certifiable African bees in violation of state law. Good luck!
