LLL had a legal advisor for many years named Elizabeth Baldwin, and much of her material is available on the LLLI website. Some of it is outdated, but she makes several very good points. One of them, very hard to hear for us on a list like this, is that in the context of the parenting journey breastfeeding is a relatively small portion of it (even if one gets to age 5, that's still less than a third of the amount of time a child will commonly spend with a parent before launching). Elizabeth noted that protecting breastfeeding in the vast majority of cases isn't worth losing custody rights over. Obviously if there are significant medical issues that might be different, and hopefully an MD would be willing to get involved. But if the breastfeeding has become an issue in court, and especially with an older nursling, this may not be a battle worth picking. I'm including LLL's link, again noting that some of the specific references/comments are outdated. But she does offer some good perspectives on the process: http://www.llli.org/nb/nbdivorce.html Morgan Kennedy Henderson, IBCLC, NMC Counselor *********************************************** Archives: http://community.lsoft.com/archives/LACTNET.html To reach list owners: [log in to unmask] Mail all list management commands to: [log in to unmask] COMMANDS: 1.
