Alter the infant gut and you're asking for trouble.  Isn't that why we are not feeding solids until 6 months or after?  
Gripe water, mylecon, vitamins, ...I don't care what it is...doesn't belong down there either.  Yet these things are used so casually. (not to mention the pervasive formula use) No one even reads the bottles...they assume because it is on the shelf/sold, it is safe....... I spend alot of time educating parents about the infant gut and why breastmilk, only, is perfect for it.  If a baby is fussy, gassy or irritable we explore the source of that, not throw something down their gut to further complicate things.
