> This is an update to the information you were sent last Friday (24 Sept) > about the MAF Biosecurity New Zealand (MAFBNZ) response to the detection > of > the bee parasite Nosema ceranae in Coromandel apiaries. With this confirmation of Nosema ceranae (NC) in New Zealand, it begs the question of how long NC has been around in mellifera bees? New Zealand has shut off its borders to the outside for many years now. So how did it get NC? I see in their text that they say Uruguay has had NC since prior to 1990. It makes one think that maybe NC has been around for a lot long that we presently think.
