Hi All,

I am working with a mother, permission to post, who is breastfeeding her 16 month old and trying to loose weight. Some background info... She was diagnosed with pcos about 12 years ago, was treated with glucophage and all blood tests normalized. She stopped glucopahge treatment about 10 years ago. She got pregnant with both her babies with no help of fertility drugs, and went on to successfully breastfeed both. Baby #1 was in 2005, about 3 years after stopping glucophage treatment. She never had any problems with milk supply.

She has been eating very healthy foods, exercising very frequently and has not lost any weight. My question is... Could her previous problems with pcos and the hormonal fluctuation they cause be working with the hormones produced during breastfeeding to prevent weight loss? And if so, she plans to meet with her MD, what kinds of blood tests should they do to check for this?

Thanks for any information you can provide for this mother!
