Nina I think I made light of a topic you obviously feel strongly about so to help me 'hear' you - which is extremely difficult by email I find :-) - could I clarify a couple of thoughts: Is it your experience that all women find hand expressing quicker and more effective? Are you suggesting we don't utilize breast pumps? Or are you saying that we need to be less focussed on breast pumps and more focussed on teaching mothers how to hand express? I certainly would not want to wash all my clothes by hand, either but not because I have an aversion to hand washing (or a preference for the use of machines) per se. I use the machine because doing so occupies less of my time and washes more effectively. If it were not so, I would not have wasted my money buying a washing machine. If washing in the machine took more of my time and was less efficient than hand washing, you'd better believe I'd hand wash everything! The point here is that hand expressing is quicker and more effective than using a breast pump or using a breast pump alone.
