Education is critical. How is it that so many of today's physicians,
pharmacists and other health care professionals do not have copies of
Lawrence and Hale at their fingertips, at the very least? Of course it should
go without saying that a more complete lactation library would include Riordan
(previous editions as Riordan & Auerbach), BAB, Genna Watson, Smith, Kroeger
& Smith, Cadwell, and all the other texts that we hold dear.

The Breastfeeding Section of the AAP states in their Fall 2008 online
newsletter, "One final education strategy is to influence and support residency
and medical school breastfeeding education, by establish [sic] a curriculum
with supporting materials for residency and medical student rotations. The
Breastfeeding Promotion in Physician Office Practices, Phase III grant for
pediatric residency curriculum development is nearly finished and ready to be
released on our website."

The members of the Breastfeeding Section of the AAP are saints among us.
Pharmaceutical science needs some saints along these lines.
