Parthenia, a Consort of Viols, To Perform as Part of A Royal Christening: Stuttgart 1616 on January 31 at Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Manhattan New York's premier viol consort, Parthenia, will be part of a special A Royal Christening: Stuttgart 1616 program on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 8pm at Church of St. Mary the Virgin, 145 West 46th Street in Manhattan. Other ensembles performing on this program will be Piffaro and Elision Vocal Ensemble. In 1616, the lavish ten-day celebration for the christening of the Duke of Wurttemberg's third son Frederick was an excuse to gather the main leaders of the Protestant Union for a public relations event filled with feasting and sumptuous music. In this rare recreation of the grand festivities, three world-class ensembles will join forces to present works by Ludwig Daser, Leonhard Lechner, Gregor Aichinger, Balduin Hoyoul, as well as lively banqueting music, including The Ballet of the Nations (Praetorius, Brade, Dowland, and more). Tickets for the January 31 concert range from $7 to $35 and are available only through the Miller Theatre Box Office - (212) 854-7799 or http://www.millertheatre.com/.
