One of the human milk pasteurizer companies has a simple storage device in = which a mother can place a bottle of milk with boiling water=2C then seal t= he container and it kills the HIV. http://www.ace-intermed.com/sbp.htm This is *fabulous*! Especially (in my community) for women who use milk from local donors. But I *am* curious: I know that HIV dies within minutes on a surface, but that it can last plenty long enough in donated blood to cause infection. Do we actually *know* how long it can survive in expressed milk at room temperature? Does refrigeration have any effect? Freezing? I'm assuming HIV can "outlive the milk" and that we can't just out-wait it. But has the research been done?
