I know this question has already been answered in previous posts, so I'm just throwing this out there, with tongue-very-firmly-in-cheek :) If the Infection Control person wants you to store breastmilk and formula separately, what would you do if it were mixed, as is common practice (yes, bad practice, I know) in many NICUs. Would you have to have a 3rd refridgerator? If breastmilk is such a "contaminant" shouldn't each mother's milk have it's own storage area? To take it one step further (and a little off-topic) - what about storing food for Vegetarians who don't want their food "contaminated" by meat products? What about our Jewish friends whose food must be Kosher? Must that have a seperate storage area away from the non-Kosher foods? I can just imagine the line of refridgerators along a hospital corridor, each for storage of a different "substance". Should we color-code them too for easy identification? I know I'm using the "slippery slope" argument here, but once again I shake my head in frustration at the "lack of education" (I wanted to use "ignorance"). Of all people, the Infection Control person should understand that if there were ANY risk of transferrance of anything in the breastmilk, the mother would have been told NOT to breastfeed anyway. ...shaking my head yet again...
