Hi, my name is Carrie and I am a long time lurker but this is my first time posting. I know we aren't normally supposed to post with questions about ourselves, but I am in desperate need of your expert advice. I have a 21 month old son who was still nursing at least 6 times a day until Tuesday morning when I had his lingual frenulum clipped. He had a posterior tongue tie, and I was concerned with future speech issues and his difficulty to transition to solid foods. He nursed in the recovery room after the procedure but has refused ever since. Call me naive, but I had no idea he would refuse the breast. I knew there would be some pain involved, but I believed his love of nursing would override any pain that he would experience. I never considered that this would happen. I have tired co bathing, offering, not offering, pain medications, etc. Today when I came home from the hospital after working, he followed the same routine, patting the couch as soon as he saw me. His way to communicate that he wants me to sit down so he can nurse. He was excited and got his mouth there, but acted like he didn’t know how to do it. Where do I go from here? Do you think it is a pain issue or mechanics? He is eating like he did before the procedure and maybe even a little bit better. I am really sad for our nursing relationship to be over and I don't think he is ready either. I am pumping to maintain my supply until I know it is really over, but it is hard for me to let down to the pump. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. You can respond on or off list. Thanks in advance and sorry it was so long, Carrie Thayer RN, BSN, IBCLC San Diego, CA, USA *********************************************** Archives: http://community.lsoft.com/archives/LACTNET.html To reach list owners: [log in to unmask] Mail all list management commands to: [log in to unmask] COMMANDS: 1.
