I have been concerned about being "turned in," particularly because I nursed my older child far longer than anyone I knew. He weaned four days before he turned 6.5 years old. I do not admit this anywhere but here, generally by telling inquirers that it is his business, not mine. They drop the subject, because they are not nosy enough to ask him directly :) I quit nursing him in public at age 3. I figured I could quote the WHO and say I was nursing a two year old until then. I have just now stopped nursing my 3.5yo daughter in public. In fact, yesterday was the first time ever that we did not nurse at Mass, and instead she chose to run up almost to the altar and make rude noises during the homily. Sigh. It was such a useful parenting tool. Now that I am homeschooling full-time, *and* extended nursing, I feel like I need to fly under the radar as much as possible. On a personal, woman-to-woman level, I don't care, but nosy outsiders do worry me.
