I went to Dr. Hale's session at the LLLI Conference in July, and he said that in this *one* instance (which is where this recommendation is coming from I believe) it was an inability of the mother to metabolize the codeine, which is a very rare circumstance. Are there other instances where this has been a problem? If not, this seems like a blanket recommendation for no reason. He also said that baby was seen (I believe) three times by a physician and all the warning signs were missed.
