I don't have the research in hand, but the course I took through UCSD (taught by Gini Baker, IBCLC and a slew of others after her name) said that the reason 8-12 was recommended was that babies fed at least 8 times in 24 hours had the least risk of jaundice... actually i just found the reference... DeCarvalho M, Klaus MH, Merkatz RB, Frequency of breastfeeding and serum bilirubin concentration, Am J Dis Child. 1982 Aug; 136(8) 737-8. it says in my notes from the course that this is the basis for recommendation for feeding 8-12 times in 24 hours... "bilirubin levels correlate inversely with number of feedings over first 3 days" not sure if this is what you're looking for, but hope it helps... *********************************************** Archives: http://community.lsoft.com/archives/LACTNET.html Mail all commands to [log in to unmask] To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or [log in to unmask]) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet or ([log in to unmask]) To reach list owners: [log in to unmask]
