As someone who is all too aware of US politics, I have noticed that proponents of formula gift bags keep telling one pernicious lie over and over again: that taking formula out of the gift bag deprives women of choice. That is the only compelling part of their argument (it really is their only argument), and it's false. What we need to do is point this out succinctly and repeatedly. Something along the lines of "Regardless of the content of marketing gift bags, all US hospitals provide formula to mothers and babies who want it. Taking formula out of gift bags does not deprive families of choices, it deprives large for-profit corporations of marketing opportunities." I think we can debunk this nonsense if we call its purveyors on the carpet as often as possible.
