Position announcement of possible interest to list members - The Department of Anthropology, American University, seeks an anthropologist to fill a tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2008, with a specialization in North American prehistoric or historic archaeology. An Eastern North America/Middle Atlantic specialization is preferred, but exceptional candidates working in other areas will be considered. The successful candidate will play a major role in the departmentıs public anthropology/ archaeology program, and complement current faculty strengths in Middle Atlantic archaeology, cultural resources management, biological anthropology, and culture, power and history. PhD by Fall, 2008, publication record, and previous teaching experience are required. The teaching assignment includes courses in the university's General Education program, in undergraduate and graduate archaeology (especially public archaeology) and in race, gender and social justice studies in the Department of Anthropology, in the American Studies program and, as appropriate, in the Public History program in the Department of History. Other responsibilities include advising students, mentoring women and minority students, conducting and publishing research, and participating in department, college and university service activities.
