Pat Young noted: <<JCAHO (in US-big deal that accredits hospitals) has a new reg. The ped must SIGN the standing orders or give a verbal order before the baby can get eye drops, Vit K or be fed! Now what idiot thought that one up? What is happening to the "golden first hour"? Anyone have an idea how we can let them know that a baby needs to be breastfed whenever ready, even the middle of the night, even if the ped is asleep?>> ****************************************************************************** ************************************* I didn't know a pediatrician had to write an order to feed the baby. I don't think they do....that's a new one. Pat, can you point me to that part on the JCAHO website that states this? Since JCAHO is notoriously NOT interested in MCH, I'm surprised this is a mandate from them. I'm not doubting you, just surprised and would like to see where it is for myself so we can appropriately arm ourselves when going to the JCAHO meeting in July.
