My own theory on the subject = >lies=20 >with the sexualization of the breast. Our culture sees the *primary* fun= >ction=20 >of a breast as being sexual. To nurse in public isn't just to "bring som= >ething=20 >private into public space". It is (in their eyes, IMO) to bring SEX - a = >sexual=20 >act, the use a sexual object - into public space. It's interesting to note the religious aspect of the orginial article in light of your comments, because it reminds me of an article on breastfeeding which appeared in a Christian Parenting magazine several years ago (wish I'd kept it). The article caused a huge uproar because it implied breastfeeding was God's design, and that's why it is better than bottlefeeding. I was surprised by the number of women who wrote to the magazine stating that they believed their breasts were designed for their husband's pleasure, and they were not about to share them with a child.
