Today there was another letter to Ask Amy regarding breastfeeding in public. As usual, she firmly supported the mom's right to nurse and the ridiculousness of anyone getting bent out of shape about this. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/28/ AR2007032801935.html Here is my letter to her: Dear Amy, Thank you so much for your ongoing support of babies' right to eat in public. As a lactation consultant, I see many mothers who feel isolated, judged, and discriminated against simply for feeding their babies. Breasts, like lips, may be used for sexual purposes, but their primary function is for feeding. Mother's milk and breastfeeding are innocent, healthy and beautiful, and I thank you for educating people to be more supportive of mothers and babies. Anyplace a bottle or pacifier may be used for feeding or comforting a child, breastfeeding should also be welcomed and encouraged. ----- Lynnette Hafken, MA, Mother of 3, LLLL, IBCLC http://www.nurslings.com "Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves."
