The thought of the medical field taking ownership of breastfeeding…well, it honestly scares me. I can see where there exists, obviously, a symbiotic relationship between the two; but breastfeeding on a day-to-day basis is not something that requires any sort of advanced medical degree. I see the lactation consultant as someone who has advanced knowledge in breastfeeding and is able to present that information to a mother at a time when she most needs it…it doesn’t take phlebotomy to accomplish that. If the IBCLC is to become a credential only for those who are trained in medicine, we will be doing a grave disservice to women, taking away from them yet another aspect of control of their own bodies. I struggle with this…my feeling is so strong that I can’t even coherently put words to the thoughts and emotions that I have. *********************************************** Archives: http://community.lsoft.com/archives/LACTNET.html Mail all commands to [log in to unmask] To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or [log in to unmask]) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet or ([log in to unmask]) To reach list owners: [log in to unmask]
