Interesting you choose this music.  I listened to the early '47-'48?
Huddersfield/Liverpool/Sargent "Messiah" recently this is some great
music-making!  It's not "your grandson's Handel" as far as performance
goes, but very moving, crisp but huge choral sound and great soloists.
The lps were in terrible shape though.  Someday I'll find some clean
copies.
