I just visited the Lactnet archives and saw Alice's post. I sure wish I had been able to in Syracuse to hear Jim speak. His book, "The Problem with Breastfeeding," is a worthy read. I am finally making some progress on writing up a review of the evidence related to my presentation on infant feeding rhetoric--particularly the use of risk-based language and benefit-based language. In short, I believe there are numerous and compelling reasons to use risk-based language. I've presented on this topic before (a conference in Kentucky) and will do so again in November (a conference in Oregon), but I really want to get this evidence published as it is difficult to find, being scattered across diverse disciplines.
