Dear All, If you are in the Ann Arbor, MI area this week, you are cordially invited to a concert by Brave New Works. The concert will feature a world premiere of Andrew Mead's Far Cry. The composer will lead a pre-concert lecture at 7 pm. The concert will also feature two winners of BNW's Annual Call for Scores Program. BNW have also recently been awarded the Aaron Copland Recording Grant to record the works of William Albright and William Bolcolm. Here is the info on the concert. On September 9th, 2006 two local not-for-profit organizations, Brave New Works and Ann Arbor School for the Performing Arts are teaming up with the Residential College Music Program to conduct a one-day Year of Citizenship festival titled "Are You Brave?". The three-part event will include: "New Voices" - 12:00pm - 2:00 - instrumental and chamber music master classes by the members of the Brave New Works Ensemble. Fee is $20 "Music and Citizenship" - 7:00 - pre-concert lecture by composer Andrew Mead from the UM School of Music "Are You Brave" - 8:00 pm -Concert by the Brave New Works Ensemble. The program will include: The world-premiere of UM composer Andrew Mead's piece "Far Cry - Four Poems of Amy Clampitt" for soprano and ensemble; two Brave New Works call-for-scores winners, Canadian Philippe Bodin's "Peal" and Panayiotis Kokoras' "Holophony" for string quartet and electronics, a harp solo by Gunther Schuller as well as music by American composer John Zorn.
