I have a friend in Harford CT who needs an experienced IBCLC. Mom and baby have had thrush for 7 weeks (baby is 9 weeks old). She has tried everything and needs more support than I can give over the phone. Very complicated case- Mother with immune problems (Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome) with a hx of chronic systemic yeast. This family has tried everything, dietary (sugar, dairy, probiotics etc), herbal (grapefruit seed extract, gentian violet, in contact with herbalist vinegar, baking soda, etc), laundry (vinegar, everything is washed everyday etc), supportive therapy (cranio-sacral) and medical (nystatin, diflucan ). This dyad has been successful in tamping down a serious over-supply problem, but the yeast will not go away. Mother and baby have been on large doses of Diflucan for a month now with no relief. Pedi will not give the baby anymore diflucan and Mom's doctors are also reluctant to prescribe more for her. They are starting to run tests on the baby's immune system to see if he is immuno-compromised. This family needs it all- not just expert advice, a person to person consult, and help in communicating with her healtth care team but real emotional support. She is motivated and even with all of the pain still wants to nurse. Please contact me off list as I am no mail. Thank you, Charity M.
