ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions. ***************************************************************************** I am interested in how science-technology centers manage audience research and evaluation in their organizations when there is an individual or department within the organization who consults, manages, oversees, facilitates, and/or conducts audience research and evaluation studies for the institution. I have noticed over the years that there are many different approaches to this work. Recently, I have noticed that there seem to be more science-technology centers with positions dedicated to audience research and evaluation, although it may be that I am just paying more attention. If you have an individual or department that is primarily responsible for audience research and evaluation, would you please forward this survey to the person who can best answer these questions? I will be happy to summarize and share the responses. 1) Where in the organizational structure is the individual or department that has responsibility for audience research and/or evaluation? Who does the individual or department head report to? 2) What sort of audience research and/or evaluation is the individual or department responsible for (exhibits, programs, marketing, other)? Is this responsibility shared in any way with other staff in the organization? 3) What is the source of funding for this work--and who is responsible for the budget? 4) How many staff (including volunteers and contractors) are responsible for this work and what are their responsibilities? Are they full-time or part-time, permanent or temporary? Note: Please let me know if there is any information in your response that you do not want me to share. Thanks. Susan B.F.
