Judith Lang Zaimont's "Spirals" for String Trio Featured Score in December 2005 Issue of Chamber Music Magazine New York, NY - "The Rose" movement from Judith Lang Zaimont's "Spirals" for violin, viola and cello is the featured CMA Score in the December 2005 issue of Chamber Music magazine. Each month, the magazine chooses an important score by an American composer and "The Rose", the fifth of six movements from Ms. Zaimont's string trio, has been published in this issue. "Spirals" was a millennium commission from Chamber Music America and was first performed in April 2000 by the Ensemble Capriccio at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was inspired by the composer's observations of nature while visiting a local park and represents the curves and coils found in mathematics, art and nature The six movements are titled, "The Spiral (Ancient Song)", "Whirligig", "A Closed Fist", "Entropy", "The Rose" and "Chambered Nautilus". The complete work is about 30 minutes. "A Closed Fist" was previously reproduced in the College Music Society's publication Reflections on American Music - The Twentieth Century and The New Millennium, Pendragon Press, November 2000. The St. Paul Pioneer Press wrote of the work, "Based on the image of movement inherent in the spiral, the music coils and uncoils through six movements. The serpentine motif winds its way through tonal movements that are juxtaposed with a wealth of tone clusters and chromatic inflections. It is not easy music, but it held the audience captivated." "Spirals" is published by MMB Music. Visit them online at http://www.mmbmusic.com/.
