Composer Michael Harrison is one of the world's leading composers working with just intonation and rational number based tuning systems as applied to the piano. His work has been hailed as "an indisputable landmark in Western tuning's circuitous history" (Kyle Gann, The Village Voice). In 1986, he created the "harmonic piano" with the ability to play up to 24 notes per octave. As a disciple of La Monte Young, Harrison prepared all of the specialized tunings for Young's 6-" hour historical work, The Well-Tuned Piano. In 1999 Harrison performed his own epic composition, From Ancient Worlds (New Albion Records), in Rome at the "Festival 4 Pianoforti." A celebration of America's visionary composer/pianists, the festival also featured solo performances by Philip Glass and Terry Riley. Revelation received its world premiere in 2001 at Germany's prestigious Klavier Festival Ruhr. In October of the same year the work was premiered in the U.S. at Composers Collaborative's Solo Flights festival at Lincoln Center. For more information visit http://www.michaelharrison.com.
