You're absolutely right. In re-reading my post I think I was more 
judgemental than I really intended. This IS the place for anecdotes that 
illustrate problems in professional practice that affect historical 
archaeologists as well as pre-historians (apologies to Anita). My rant was 
initially directed at post-processual issues -- how do we practice 
interpretation of archaeological data from any era, and your comment is 
germane: if we can't have free exchange of ideas because of partisan 
censorship we can't get to where we want to be.

Wonder if Newsletter and such (including electronic) provide a forum to to 
vett ideas before they go to formal presentation, as you suggested.
