I think it will be a mistake to use Peer Counselors for hospital rounds. The PC role is not the same as the IBCLC. Using the PCs will, in effect, fool the patient who will not really know the difference. Fooling the public is not a good thing in hospital care. If the hospital wants 7 day coverage, do that with IBCLCs, just keep up with the number of patient visits and the number of patients not seen. If you are normally able to see each BF mother with the 6 day coverage but have to miss some when you are more stretched, the hospital may notice. At any rate, I hope you will not decide to dilute the important role of the IBCLC. Good luck and let us know how things go.
