Renee, You only failed if your job is to force women to breastfeed. We can't do it. Free will is free will. I think that you were successful in that you have provided her the information she needs to make an informed decision. That's really all we can do. Step back and let her own her own decision. The consequences of her choices belong to this mom and to her alone. She may "get it" with the next child, or she may have something like abuse in her past that is a huge obstacle that we can't understand from the outside. I grieve for this baby, and I would hope the neonatologist(s) will insist that the mother pump for a while. Maybe things will change after the baby is born. You did everything you could do. Don't beat yourself up. Save your energy and enthusiasm for moms who want your help. We can only change the world one step at a time.
