Dear all, and Barbara. Thank you very much for the great note on standards, and on the frustrations of private practice LC standards. Barbara, you have a unique and wonderful perspective, and I so appreciate what you are saying. I thank you for your contributions in so many ways, and I stand corrected. ILCA does have a standard of care for the first fourteen days, I believe. This is available at: http://www.ilca.org/pubs/ebg.pdf I don't think it is universally implemented.... But it should be. The variation in practice is what I have a problem with, and indeed, the gold standard of lactation practice being an entry level does not jive. Looking forward to more of Barbara's posts on this subject. Kathleen Kathleen Bruce RN IBCLC Independent consultant: Lactation Resources of Vermont, Medela, Inc.
