I was called to consult on a case in which the baby has issues that might
affect breastfeeding. But, coincidentally, during the consult, the mother
told me that she has been diagnosed with celiac disease and the doctor
told her that breastfeeding (this is her 4th child - all previous children
were breastfed) did not cause the celiac but breastfeeding can trigger
celiac if mother is prone to it. The mother is determined to breastfeed
this current baby. I have read about breastfeeding being benificial to a
child with celiac but I don't have any info re: maternal celiac
being 'triggered' by breastfeeding. Any thoughts????

Thanks you
Debbie
