Whne the FDA warning first came out, I called MEAD Johnson provider line to see what impact this would have on the HMF. The "expert" stated that because of the small amount per package, there was less risk of contamination and that even if there was contamination quote " the antibodies in the breastmilk would nullify the contamination". Interesting huh? The other good point of the FDA warning was that when I presented the information to our risk manager, she agreed that to continue with providing formula discharge bags to moms meant our facility would need to keep a log of all patients, their contact and the lot numbers on all the cans in case of recall and set up a system appointing staff to do this and be responsible for monitoring recalls and contacting families when it happened. The cost benefit ratio became to high to continue with these " free gifts" and we no longer give out ANY of the discharge bags in our post partum unit. :) Lisa J *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
