Hello all, Just wanted to let you know how the presentation to the high school students went. There were about 20 students, all girls (not pregnant). Barb Berges suggested having the students come up with questions ahead of time. It really helped me see where their concerns were. Thanks Barb! Based on the students questions, I did a power point presentation with lots of pictures of moms, babies, and dads. Covered the basics of what breastfeeding does for mother and baby. Then the basics of breastfeeding management, factors that can affect bf, pumps (wouldn't have thought of including it but they wanted to know) and dad's role. Weaning and the post- weaning breast. Finished with "breastfeeding etiquette" (always be especially courteous to breastfeeding mothers) :-). They were surprised to learn that breastfeeding is a protected civil right in Texas. After the presentation I answered questions. I was impressed. They wanted to know about BFAR, breastfeeding and cancer, adoptive breastfeeding, what to do if your milk coming in is delayed. I got one "ick" when I mentioned donor milk and milk banking. All in all it was fun and interesting. My thanks to everyone who shared ideas. -Claire Bloodgood, IBCLC *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
