Hi All I am an IBCLC at a small private maternity unit in Australia, we have approx 25 - 30 births a month and are starting to expand. I have been put in charge of developing our breastfeeding policies. I would appreciate any advice, examples, copies of existing policies that might aid us in developing one that will work in the best interests of our patients. I'm particularly interested in the ones relating to healthy > 36 week infants who are sleepy for the first few days. Should they be given colostrum and when? How often should the mother express? Is there any evidence to support this? eg if hasn't fed in the first X hours offer colostrum.
