I see this too. We have a very high c-section rate or so it seems. Almost all of the moms supplement. The moms or babies on our floor often have rough starts and we start the vicious cycle of bottlefeeding, not pumping often enough, baby with lousy sucks related to being bottle fed, unsatisfied babies since they've been fed lots of ABM. Frustrated moms who give bottles because the baby isn't satisfied. Mind you they seldom ask for help with breastfeeding. I don't technically work with the babies but do help with breastfeeding when I have the time. The nursery doesn't have time to help the moms nurse or maybe they don't want to. Most babies are sent back to the nursery so mom can sleep and then brought back because the baby is crying. They are setting these women up to fail. I'm constantly experiencing culture shock as I lived in Austin, Tx and breastfeeding was supported more. I almost never see anyone nursing in public here. I'm in NJ now. *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
