Ken Keuffel suggests: >I wonder, though, if anyone has ever produced a serious study that shows >that children who participate in such activities end up attending concerts >regularly as adults. I suspect that a concert-going patron's love of >music is the result of meaningful hands-on experience with it in childhood. >That means taking lessons and performing. Surely not. How about: a concert-going patron's love of music can result from meaningful experience with it in childhood, period. Or, come to think of it, after childhood. More important: it needn't be hands-on, neither taking lessons nor performing. And an ability to dance is not required either, nor even expertise at whistling. The radio will do fine, and concerts and records also come in handy. Appreciating music requires nothing more than exposure ...and the desire for more. Bert Bailey
