The Americas Vocal Ensemble Presents "Music from Latin America - Its Rhythms and Poetry" At Queensborough Community College - Wednesday, November 17 at 1:15 PM The Americas Vocal Ensemble, Nelly Vuksic, Music Director, will present the a special concert titled "Music from Latin America - Its Rhythms and Poetry", on Wednesday, November 17 at 1:15 PM at Queensborough Community College CUNY's QPAC Center, 222-05 56th Avenue, Bayside, NY. This concert will present the rich variety of Latin American rhythms and the magnificent poetry of Pablo Neruda, Gabriela Mistral, and others in a program of original compositions and artistic choral arrangements by outstanding composers from the Americas. Works to be presented include Eduardo Grau's "Ojos claros, serenos", Gunhild Glass's "Yo no tengo soledad", Astor Piazzolla's "Invierno Porteno", Cesar Vuksic's "Toccatina" and works by Carlos Guastavino, Luis Antonio Escobar and others. Members of the Americas Vocal Ensemble featured in this program include sopranos Margarita Martinez and Carla Wesby, alto Lisa Chavez, tenors Jeremy Black and Martin Kugler and baritone Frank Kain. The AVE was founded by its Director Nelly Vuksic as a professional chamber group whose mission is to foster understanding among the people of the Americas and to preserve the musical and cultural richness of the diverse countries of North and South America. It brings to its audiences a most enjoyable and rarely performed repertory which encompasses the whole range of the music of the Americas, from the colonial period to contemporary times, through concerts, educational programs and recordings.
