Hi Rachel - In the next few months CDC will be publishing a table on the (breastfeeding) website about individual vaccines and precautions related to breastfeeding. The information for pneumococcal is as follows: "Data on safety in breastfeeding are not available; it is unlikely that vaccination would cause untoward effects in breastfed infants." Citation: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00047135.htm Prevention of Pneumococcal Disease: Recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). MMWR Vol 46, RR-8;1-24 4/4/1997 I know its not much, but its what we've got for now. Hope that helps. Dr. Hale doesn't have it listed in his 2004 book and the computer isn't letting me get to his message board to post a question there. Does anyone have any information about it's use in breastfeeding mothers? The data sheet that comes with it says not for use in pregnancy and "should not be given to breastfeeding mothers". The vaccine is called "Pneumovax". Thank-you, Rachel A.
