Feeling more inspired by this list and lactivism elsewhere and less inspired by my own department lately, I went to the IBLCE website to check the requirements for sitting for the exam. Wow, 900 hours of consulting -- how does one do this, particularly as a non-pediatrician physician? What types of consulting count? How do you record the hours? Are most IBCLCs willing to take on occasional-and-sporadic interns in terms of a few hours here and there for shadowing? On the one hand, I am pleased that the requirements are so vigorous as to distinguish the certification of IBCLC. On the other, I can't conceive how to accomplish this over the next year in addition to my other responsibilities, or even during an anticipated breast surgery fellowship. I would love advice. Please feel free to contact me off-list.
