Brief re-introduction- Charity Pitcher-Cooper BSN, RN, CLC been lurking since having my first baby in November Just a few thoughts on this tough case- Perhaps this little one's "sense of order" has been disrupted. Two major red flags- She won't eat for Mom or sleep for Mom. I would look for changes that have to do with Mom. In my experience babies who are sensitive about changes in feeding are also sensitive about other differences. Mothers who are preparing to return to work often make several seemingly minor changes at once. (They wear different clothes, they get their hair done differently, they wear perfume, they change their pattern of living, they re-arrange the furniture, they change their daily diet). Sometimes it is the absence of things that make babies upset- has anyone significant who was helping with the baby leave? Perhaps the introduction of a bottle was just the last straw for a baby who was already stressed about some other small changes. The other things she cannot control- but eating is something she has control over. My second line of thinking (taking your intial thought one more step)- Could she express/pump off some milk before offering the breast for self attachment? If the refusal is flow related due to a posterior tongue this baby might like her milk to be super slow and refuse those more forceful letdowns. Other random suggestions... Distraction has worked for a while- how about some white noise and amplified heartbeat- Make the room womb-like and peaceful? Ears have been mentioned- I would have her throat checked too. Very Warmly, Charity (who has a fever of 101 this evening;-) *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
