Hi, Chris: No, your friend is not too short. I am only 5' (but, unfortunately not a size 2!) and had no trouble with using a sling. Most are adjustable, which is nice for the 6'+ men out there. Because of the age range of my kids (23 years old to 9 years old) I think I own an example of every baby carrier on the market. I have the original Gerri carrier (the 1st front carrier available in the US), the metal frame carrier that carries baby on the back, and finally, with my 2nd baby, I was given a sling by some of my LLL friends. It was wonderful! The recommendation of many manufacturers is that the sling can be used for up to 3 years. Not with my kids! By the time they were 18 months old, they figured out how to plant their feet on my side and push off, as if they were rappelling down Mt. Everest. I found a sling particularly useful when in locations that are not stroller-friendly. And slings are also back-friendly, unlike front- carriers, which tend to support baby's (ever-increasing) weight off the shoulders and upper back. Good luck to your friend.
