Experts,
I have searched the archives and found no clear cut, recently posted
information (1998 most current) regarding the use of phenobarb by an
epileptic nursing mother.

Mom is seizure-free x 5 years on 100mg phenobarb bid. This is mom's second
term pregnancy (she is currently 37 weeks) on phenobarb. Her first baby
born 10 years ago suffered what she believes to be withdrawal (crying
inconsolibly x 2 weeks postpartum)when she did not breastfeed and she does
not want the same trauma to occur with this baby.

A look at Hale revealed that withdrawal symptoms can occur, but I could not
get any substantiated documentation to give to her OB and neurologist saying
slow weaning is the preferred method to help ease the baby from the phenobarb.

What I need for these docs is a documented study. Any help?
