It appears, in my practice at least, to be more common in Latina and Asian, dark skinned women. I have the mothers use cold compresses and cabbage to reduce the swelling. I tell them to be careful to avoid touching the breast itself with the cabbage or the cold compress. One mother I worked with recently, had had her Tail of Spence swelling reduce on it's own, only to have it enlarge again, with a bout of mastitis. She has no nipple on it, and it could also be lymph tissue. Engorgement or "dry up" tricks seem to work well, if the swelling is bothering the mother. I also always tell the clients not to try to express any milk from the tiny nipple, if they have one, as this will cause the swelling to continue. (Many are so facinated by this tiny brest that they try to express from it.)
