Music of the Americas Season Finale at New York's Americas Society - Guitarist/Composer Aquiles Baez and His Quartet Perform Los Llanos y Venezuela on May 27 New York - The Americas Society Music Department will present a special season finale concert by guitarist/composer Aquiles Baez and his Quartet on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 7:30 pm in the Salon Simon Bolivar of The Americas Society, 680 Park Avenue, corner of 68th Street in Manhattan. Aquiles Baez transforms music from the Llanos, a vast region of tropical plains between Venezuela and Colombia, along with other Venezuelan genres, into a wonderful new blend of jazz and folklore. Mr. Baez has appeared with such artists as Paquito D'Rivera, Fareed Haque, and Giora Feidman. He has toured extensively in Latin America, Europe, Japan and the U.S. The musicians of the Aquiles Baez band include: Anat Cohen, clarinet; Roberto Koch, bass; Omar Ledezma, percussion; and Pablo Bencid, drums. They will be joined by guest vocalist Cecilia Todd and a special appearance by flutist MariaElena Tobon.
